Friday was rainbow day. We all looked so bright and colorful wearing all the colors of the rainbow. We also talked about the color pink. We read the book Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum and then chewed pink bubble gum. We also had a bubble blowing contest. We can't quite blow a bubble, but we gave it a good try. Check out the pictures below as we had fun trying.

Little Miss Muffett
For the past week we have been learning nursery rhymes. Today was one of my favorite, Little Miss Muffett. The kids always enjoy acting out Little Miss Muffett. The boys get to take turns being the spider and the girls take turns being Miss Muffett. We have some really good actors. Check out some of the frightened looks that the girls have.

Brown Bear Pudding Painting
Today was brown day. We read Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? After enjoying the story, we talked about things that are brown (chocolate was a favorite). We mixed chocolate pudding and then used it to finger paint a picture of Brown Bear. Some of us did a lot of tasting while we painted. Some of us even resorted to "licking" our painting. We had pudding from ear to ear and chin to forehead. Needless to say, our room smelled great for the rest of the day.

Our first full week
We have been really busy learning our class rules and settling into our routine. I am so excited at how much progress we have already made. This week we worked on colors and shapes. We have been using the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do You See to help us with our colors. On Red Day we used torn paper to make a red bird. On Blue Day we used yarn to create a blue horse and read Blueberries for Sal. In the story Sal went with her mother to pick blueberries. We used blue finger paint to fill our bucket with blueberries. On Yellow Day we used tissue paper to make a yellow duck. We also read Curious George Goes to School. We all made yellow hats like the character in the story wears (stay tuned for a picture of us all wearing our yellow hats). On Thursday we read one of my favorite books, Go Away Big Green Monster. The kids loved making their very own green monster. We also made a green frog. Later that afternoon we discovered that yellow and blue make green by using yellow and blue finger paint. The last day of the week we made an orange goldfish using ribbon. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (AKA our wonderful librarian Ms. Millwood) visited our class for a group photo (stay tuned for picture to be posted later). I can't wait to see who all Brown Bear meets next week. Here is a list of our color days for next week.

Class List
My name is Mrs. Ray and I have been teaching for 20 years. I taught pre-k for 15 years and have been teaching kindergarten for the last 5 years. I love teaching and look forward to the start of each new school year. I am excited to start blogging this year to give the parents of my students another way to see what goes on each day while their child is at school. We work hard and learn a lot while having fun at the same time.
I am so excited to have my class list. I have already been making calls and finding out about my new group for this year. I think it is going to be a great year.
Stay tuned for more updates.
